Magic: The Gathering has revealed five exclusive new cards from its upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover. Screen Rant obtained this exclusive preview showcasing characters and moments from Book 2 of the beloved animated series. These new cards will become available during the November 14-20 pre-release events. The official launch follows on November 21, when collectors can acquire these new additions alongside special reprints.
Earth Kingdom Power and Strategy
The preview introduces Bumi, King of Three Trials as a formidable six-mana creature. This card utilizes the Lesson card type from Strixhaven: School of Mages. Bumi’s entry effect offers three choices: gain a +1/+1 counter, Scry 3, or Earthbend 3. Players must have three Lessons in their graveyard to maximize Bumi’s potential.
Earth Kingdom Jailer presents solid creature value with its exile ability. This three-mana card can exile an opponent’s three-mana card until it leaves play. Though the ability isn’t revolutionary, the 3/3 stat line provides decent battlefield presence. The Earth King emerges as a powerful four-mana legendary green creature that generates significant value through token creation and land acceleration.
Reprints and Strategic Applications
The exclusive preview includes two significant reprints with new full-art treatments. Scout’s Warning returns from Future Sight, enabling flash creature plays regardless of turn. Empty City Ruse reappears from Portal Three Kingdoms, costing just one white mana to skip an opponent’s attack phase completely. These reprints gain new life through their Avatar-themed artwork.
Strategic combinations abound with these new cards. Bumi synergizes perfectly with new bending Lesson cards, particularly in blue-green deck configurations. Empty City Ruse can enable devastating combos with cards like Angel’s Trumpet, punishing opponents for not attacking. Scout’s Warning provides a surprise factor, enabling unexpected plays with token-generating cards like Darien, King of Kjeldor. The set demonstrates thoughtful design that honors both Magic’s mechanics and Avatar’s thematic elements.
