Malaysia’s Defence Chief Visits Pakistan Talks Held to Boost Defence and Security Cooperation

General Tan Sri Hj Mohd Nizam bin Hj Jaffar, Chief of Defence Forces Malaysia, paid an official visit to Pakistan where he met General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi. According to an ISPR press release, the two military leaders engaged in wide-ranging discussions covering the global and regional security environment. They emphasized the need to explore new avenues of defence and security cooperation to address evolving challenges. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance military-to-military ties, highlighting the importance of collaboration in the face of shifting regional dynamics. General Nizam expressed appreciation for the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces, their achievements and sacrifices in combating terrorism, and their sustained contributions towards peace and stability in the region. The meeting underscored the growing importance of Malaysia-Pakistan defence relations amid complex international security trends.
The visit by General Nizam reflects Malaysia’s intent to deepen defence engagement with Pakistan, a country recognized for its extensive counter-terrorism experience and operational capabilities. The Pakistani side welcomed the opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Malaysia in areas such as joint training, intelligence sharing, and defence production. General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, on behalf of Pakistan’s armed forces, reiterated the country’s commitment to fostering strong defence diplomacy in Southeast Asia and beyond. The ISPR statement noted that both nations view closer collaboration as a means to promote stability and security in their respective regions. Earlier, upon arrival at Joint Staff Headquarters, General Nizam was accorded a Guard of Honour by a well-turned-out tri-services contingent, symbolizing Pakistan’s warm hospitality and respect for the visiting dignitary. The ceremony and discussions reinforced the shared determination of Pakistan and Malaysia to build stronger strategic partnerships in the defence and security sectors.
