Medvedev Alcaraz Upset: Russian Star Stuns World No.1 to Reach Indian Wells Final

The Medvedev Alcaraz upset shocked fans at Indian Wells on Saturday. Daniil Medvedev defeated world number one Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. The Russian star won 6-3, 7-6 (7/3). As a result, he advanced to the tournament final. Medvedev played with strong focus and confidence. His powerful serve created constant pressure for the Spaniard.
In addition, he controlled rallies from the baseline. This strategy kept Alcaraz chasing points throughout the match. The victory also carried extra meaning. Medvedev lost to Alcaraz in the Indian Wells finals of 2023 and 2024.
Therefore, this win felt like redemption. “Super happy to beat someone as strong as him,” Medvedev said after the match. Alcaraz entered the semifinal with perfect momentum. Earlier this year, he won the Australian Open and completed a career Grand Slam at just 22. He also lifted the Qatar title. Consequently, he arrived in California with a 16-0 record for the 2026 season. However, the intense desert heat and long rallies created challenges. Alcaraz admitted the match demanded extra energy on every shot.

Sinner Awaits in Championship Clash

Now Medvedev faces another tough opponent. Jannik Sinner secured his place in the final with a confident victory. The Italian defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-4. His performance showed precision and strong baseline control.
Sinner also saved the only break point he faced. As a result, he maintained full command of the match. The win marked his sixth straight victory over Zverev. Moreover, it finally pushed him into the Indian Wells final after past semifinal exits. Sinner praised Medvedev’s recent form. He noted the Russian’s strong serve and deep returns. Medvedev’s comeback season has impressed many observers. Last year, he slipped as low as world number 18. However, he now carries a nine-match winning streak. Therefore, the final promises a high-level showdown between two in-form stars.
