Minecraft’s Next Update Redesigns All Baby Mobs

Minecraft is giving its youngest creatures a massive visual overhaul in 2026. The first Minecraft baby mobs update of the year will replace the old shrunken adult models with unique, adorable designs. Each baby passive mob, from chicks to wolf pups, will get distinctive pixelated eyes and new textures. This change follows last year’s biome-specific mob variants and aims to inject more personality and cuteness into the world.

New Models and Sounds for Enhanced Charm

Previously, baby mobs were simply smaller versions of adults with oversized heads. The update introduces completely new models, like a blocky yellow chick instead of a tiny chicken. Game director Agnes Larsson states the artists created unique textures and models to give each baby mob its own identity and adorable look.
The update also includes all-new, fitting sound effects. Audio designer Sandra Karlsson focused on capturing authentic sounds like kitten meows and puppy yaps. This eliminates the previous jarring effect of baby mobs making high-pitched adult noises.

Part of an Ongoing Content Strategy

This baby mob redesign is the first teased feature for Minecraft’s 2026 content roadmap. While the update’s name and exact release date are unknown, a Spring 2026 launch is likely based on previous years’ patterns. These visual and auditory improvements continue Mojang’s focus on deepening the game’s living ecosystem.
The changes may even alter player behavior, making it harder to farm passive mobs for food when their young are so distinctly cute. This update prioritizes world charm and immersion, ensuring Minecraft continues to feel fresh and lovingly crafted for its massive player base.
