Morocco has announced a temporary entry requirement for football fans ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. Supporters traveling to the host nation will need to secure an electronic travel authorization known as AEVM, a measure that will be in place from 25 September 2025 until 25 January 2026. The decision applies even to visitors from countries that usually enjoy visa-free entry, including Tunisia.
The Moroccan Consulate in Tunis clarified that Tunisian fans must apply for the AEVM through “Yalla,” a digital platform and mobile application developed by Moroccan authorities in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The process is designed to simplify entry procedures while ensuring proper monitoring of the large influx of football supporters. AFCON 2025 will be staged in Morocco between 21 December 2025 and 18 January 2026, drawing tens of thousands of fans from across the continent.
The requirement extends to nationals from several other African countries, including Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gabon, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. Supporters from these nations will also need to complete the AEVM application before traveling, highlighting Morocco’s effort to maintain smooth and secure border operations during the tournament.
Authorities have outlined specific exemptions. Holders of diplomatic, service, special, or official passports are not required to apply. Residents of Morocco who already possess valid residency permits are also excluded from the rule. Additional exemptions apply to travelers in transit who will not enter Moroccan territory, as well as spouses and children of Moroccan citizens, provided they present proof of marriage or lineage. Visitors over the age of 55 are likewise exempt.
Officials have stressed that the AEVM is not a permanent visa requirement but a temporary measure tied exclusively to AFCON 2025. The initiative is intended to streamline the entry process, enhance security, and support the logistics of hosting one of Africa’s largest sporting events. By introducing the AEVM, Morocco seeks to balance its tradition of welcoming football fans with the practical necessity of managing unprecedented visitor numbers during the championship.
