Mortal Kombat Deck-Building Game Launches on Kickstarter
Publisher Cryptozoic announces Fight: Mortal Kombat 1, a new tabletop deck-building game based on the iconic fighting franchise. Fight Mortal Kombat board game uses a modified Cerberus Engine from the DC Deck-Building Game series. The Kickstarter campaign launches exclusively today with pledge tiers starting at $60. Backers receive a special edition with additional cards and upgrades. Two cover options include a Liu Kang cover or full-art featuring Liu Kang, Scorpion, and Johnny Cage. Three expansions are available: Brutality, Deadly Alliance, and Kameo expansions. The game supports the franchise’s trademark Fatality system for memorable victories. Matches run approximately 45 minutes, with 1v1 games wrapping in 30 minutes or less.
A Faithful Tabletop Adaptation
CEO Shahriar Fouladi describes the game as true to the franchise in every way. Gameplay promises to be fast, tense, strategic, and just a little bit chaotic. The Fight! system underwent a major overhaul to support Mortal Kombat’s intensity. The new mechanics properly represent the fighting game genre in tabletop form.
The Kickstarter edition features additional cards and upgrades for backers only. Stretch goals throughout the campaign will unlock even more content. The Deadly Alliance expansion adds team-based 2v2 gameplay with shared combos. Kameo summons of 21 Mortal Kombat characters appear in their own expansion.
Proven Track Record
Cryptozoic brings extensive Kickstarter experience to this campaign launch. Previous successful campaigns include 2015’s Ghostbusters: The Board Game. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Game also launched through the publisher recently. Backers can feel confident in the company’s delivery history.
A standard retail edition will eventually show up in stores later. The Kickstarter edition remains exclusive to campaign backers. Mortal Kombat fans should keep a close eye on this project. The tabletop adaptation captures video game intensity in deck-building form.
