MQM P Lawmaker Opposes E-Challan System in Karachi
MQM-P’s Sindh Assembly member, Engineer Adil Askari, has filed an adjournment motion against the Karachi e-challan system. He says the system is unfair because the city lacks basic infrastructure and reliable public transport.
Askari calls the move “punishment for government negligence.” He adds that authorities must fix roads and signals before penalizing citizens. According to him, the government should first improve the city’s conditions instead of burdening people through faulty systems.
E-Challans Without Infrastructure
Askari says the Sindh government introduced the e-challan system without proper traffic management or road safety measures. He terms the decision “unjust, premature, and harmful.”
He explains that broken roads make daily commuting unsafe and stressful. The lack of reliable buses and trains also forces citizens to use private vehicles, adding to congestion.
In addition, Askari highlights inactive traffic signals, faded markings, and missing zebra crossings across Karachi. He says these issues make it impossible for drivers and pedestrians to follow rules properly.
Call for Immediate Action
Askari urges the Sindh Assembly to take immediate notice. He demands suspension of the e-challan system until road repairs, signal activation, and removal of encroachments are complete.
He also calls for a long-term plan to restore Karachi’s roads and improve traffic discipline. He stresses that citizens should not suffer for the government’s failure to maintain basic urban services.
Askari concludes that a fair and functional transport system must come before any digital penalty system.
