NADRA Launches Digital Birth and Death Registration System Across Pakistan
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has taken a major step toward digital governance and citizen facilitation. It has introduced a faster, more efficient, and transparent digital registration system for birth and death records. The system was developed in collaboration with provincial governments to simplify public service delivery.
Faster and Smarter Registration
According to NADRA, the reform follows the directives of the Federal Minister for Interior and aligns with the government’s digital transformation agenda. The new system operates under the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, approved by the Prime Minister on January 1. This framework creates a unified, technology-based process for recording vital events across Pakistan.
Under a pilot project, NADRA has installed state-of-the-art digital registration systems in more than 50 hospitals and health centers nationwide. The network includes major institutions such as PIMS, CDA, and FG hospitals in Islamabad, Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore, and several hospitals in Quetta, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Sindh.
Real-Time Connectivity and Expansion
Hospitals and health centers now connect directly with NADRA for real-time birth and death reporting. Once an event occurs, NADRA immediately sends a mobile and SMS notification to parents or heirs, guiding them to complete registration at their Union Council.
The initiative is already showing results. NADRA has received over 4,000 birth and 407 death notifications nationwide through the new system. Citizens can register these events easily via the NADRA mobile app or by visiting their nearest Union Council.
Officials confirmed that this system will soon expand to all provinces, ensuring full integration between hospitals, NADRA, and local government departments—marking a strong step toward digital Pakistan.
