Nairobi Floods Kill 23 After Heavy Rains Batter Kenyan Capital

At least 23 people have died in Nairobi. Heavy rain overnight caused severe flooding in Kenya’s capital. The death toll continues to rise as rescue operations continue. Police reported about 30 people have been rescued. However, many others drowned after being swept into rivers. Some victims were electrocuted in the floodwaters.

Military Deployed for Rescue

Kenya’s military has been deployed to help stranded residents. Soldiers are rescuing people trapped inside their cars. Police described widespread damage to properties across the city. Many roads remain closed due to flooding.

Flights Disrupted

Several flights bound for Nairobi Airport faced disruption. Planes were cancelled or diverted to the coastal city of Mombasa.
