National Dialogue Committee Demands Independent Medical Board for Imran Khan
A major political coalition has issued an urgent demand concerning Imran Khan’s health. The National Dialogue Committee expressed grave concern over risks to the former Prime Minister’s well-being. It specifically highlighted the government’s admission regarding a recent eye operation.
The NDC meeting in Islamabad included prominent opposition figures. They unanimously called for immediate, transparent medical intervention. Their joint statement condemns the government’s approach as regrettable and undemocratic.
Key Demands for Medical Access and Transparency
The committee’s demands are clear and specific. First, it calls for the immediate formation of an independent medical board. Second, it demands a meeting be arranged between Khan and his personal physician, Dr. Faisal Sultan.
Furthermore, the NDC insists on facilitating meetings with Khan’s family and sons. This, they argue, would relieve the family’s mental anguish. It would also help halt international criticism of Pakistan’s human rights record.
The leaders drew a direct comparison to past precedents. They noted an independent board was formed for former prisoner Nawaz Sharif. Therefore, they demand “exactly the same” standard of care for the PTI founder.
Accusations of Politicization and Concealment
The NDC strongly condemned what it calls the politicization of health. It stated the ruling coalition’s actions violate their own past advice against such practices. The leaders warned that the coalition would bear full responsibility if Khan’s health deteriorates.
A major point of contention is the handling of Khan’s eye health. The committee accused the government of “criminal concealment of facts.” It alleges authorities told lies for days about the seriousness of his declining eyesight.
This, the NDC claims, is part of a conspiracy to provoke Khan’s supporters against state institutions. It also harshly criticized opposition leader Mahmood Achakzai for downplaying the health concerns, calling him the “government’s B-team.”
The NDC has vowed to continue exposing these attitudes. It has urged PTI and opposition leadership to stage a joint sit-in at the Prime Minister’s House, escalating pressure for a resolution.
