New Guru Nanak Expressway to Transform Sikh Pilgrimage Travel in Pakistan

Pakistan is launching a major infrastructure project to boost religious tourism. The government announced the construction of the new Guru Nanak Expressway. This transformative project will directly connect the sacred Sikh cities of Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib to the country’s national motorway network.
The goal is to drastically improve access for both domestic and international visitors. By providing a seamless and comfortable journey, Pakistan aims to position itself as a prominent destination for global religious tourism. This initiative is expected to reshape the travel experience for millions of Sikh pilgrims.

A Direct Link to Sacred Sites

The National Highway Authority (NHA) will spearhead the construction. The initial focus is the Sialkot-Kartarpur section of the expressway. This vital link will offer improved access to the revered Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara.
It will also benefit residents of nearby towns like Narang Mandi and Baddo Malhi. The project is designed with pilgrims in mind, aiming to create a comfortable and welcoming travel corridor from start to finish.

World-Class Amenities Along the Route

The development includes more than just a road. The government has directed the NHA to build three, four, and five-star hotels at key locations. These will provide modern amenities catering specifically to international pilgrims.
Additional facilities like restaurants, rest stops, and service stations are also planned. This comprehensive approach ensures visitors can enjoy a safe and high-quality journey while exploring these holy sites.

A Global Marketing Campaign

Pakistan is also launching a targeted international marketing strategy. The plan includes roadshows and campaigns aimed at Sikh communities in London, Canada, and the USA.
These efforts will promote the new infrastructure and the spiritual significance of the destinations. The goal is to attract more visitors from the global Sikh diaspora, encouraging pilgrimage travel.

Economic and Spiritual Impact

The expressway is seen as a game-changer for the regional economy. Increased pilgrim traffic will boost local businesses, create jobs, and spur further infrastructure investment.
Most importantly, it eases access to the spiritual heart of Sikhism. Kartarpur is where Guru Nanak spent his final years, and Nankana Sahib is his birthplace. This project helps millions connect with their heritage, opening a new era for religious tourism in Pakistan.
