Niece of Slain Iranian General Arrested in US
The US State Department has announced an arrest. Officials detained the niece of a deceased Iranian general. They also arrested her daughter. The general was Qasem Soleimani. He commanded the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Two Family Members Detained
The two women are Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked their legal US permanent resident status. The State Department released a statement on Saturday.
Pending Removal from the Country
Rubio also posted about the case on social media. He confirmed that both women are in custody. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) holds them. They are currently pending removal from the country.General Soleimani was Iran’s most powerful military commander. He died in a US air strike in 2020. The strike happened in Iraq. Then-US President Donald Trump ordered the attack.The reasons for this arrest remain unclear. Rubio has not provided further details.
