Operation Ghazab Lil Haq Launched as Pakistan Hits Taliban Targets Across Border
Operation Ghazab Lil Haq began after Pakistan reported unprovoked cross-border attacks from Afghanistan. Security forces launched coordinated air and ground strikes. As a result, fighting spread across several Afghan provinces. The military said it struck Taliban positions in Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, and Nangarhar. In addition, forces repelled fighters at 53 border locations. Officials stressed that troops acted with restraint to avoid civilian harm.
Meaning and History Behind the Name
The name Operation Ghazab Lil Haq means “Wrath for the Truth.” Officials say it reflects a firm response in the name of justice. Therefore, the title carries moral and symbolic weight. Pakistan has often used Arabic or religious names for military campaigns. For example, Operation Zarb-e-Azb began in 2014 in North Waziristan. The name referred to the “strike of the sword of truth.”
Later, in 2017, security forces launched Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad nationwide. That operation aimed to eliminate disorder and terrorism. However, Pakistan also used English naming during tensions with India.
In 2019, Pakistan announced Operation Swift Retort after Indian airstrikes. The name signaled a fast and direct response. Together, these operations show how naming reflects intent and strategy.
Current Situation on the Ground
Pakistan said the operation began late Thursday. By Saturday morning, forces had killed 331 Taliban and allied fighters. More than 500 others suffered injuries. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar shared the update on X. He said troops destroyed 104 Taliban posts and seized 22 more. In addition, forces disabled 163 tanks and armoured vehicles.
Air strikes targeted 37 locations inside Afghanistan. Officials said the action focused on armed groups linked to repeated border attacks. Therefore, Pakistan said it would continue to secure its western frontier.
