Pakistan Astronaut Training Milestone Reached with China Partnership
Pakistan astronaut training has reached an exciting milestone. Suparco has successfully completed the second phase of astronaut candidate selection. This achievement brings the country closer to sending its first astronaut into space.
Selection Process Reaches a New Stage
Suparco, with support from ISPR, shortlisted two strong astronaut candidates. First, officials carried out an initial screening inside Pakistan. Then, the candidates traveled to China for advanced testing.
Doctors and experts at the Astronauts Centre of China examined their physical health. Psychologists also reviewed their mental readiness and performance skills. The team followed international human spaceflight standards throughout the process.
As a result, Pakistan now has two candidates ready for the next step. In addition, the China Manned Space Agency helped organise the selection phase. Teams prepared training schedules, equipment, and learning materials for the candidates.
This careful planning ensures that both candidates receive professional guidance. It also reflects the growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in space development.
Training and Space Mission Plans for 2026
Both shortlisted candidates will now begin six months of advanced astronaut training in China. They will learn how to work in microgravity and manage space station systems. They will also practice scientific research methods.
After training, officials will select one astronaut for the final mission. The spaceflight is scheduled for October or November 2026. During the mission, the astronaut will support routine space station operations. They will also conduct experiments for Pakistan’s scientific community.
Moreover, this programme strengthens the Pakistan-China partnership. Leaders signed a bilateral Astronaut Cooperation Agreement in February 2025. Therefore, Pakistan can now take part in human space exploration.
ISPR noted that China chose Pakistan as its first foreign partner in this astronaut programme. Overall, this milestone inspires people across the country. It proves that dedication and collaboration can turn space dreams into reality.
