Pakistan Currency Redesign Update: New Banknotes Expected by 2026

Pakistan may soon unveil its long awaited currency redesign. The country plans to introduce new banknotes with modern designs and security features. However, final approval from the federal government is still pending.
According to officials, authorities have already shortlisted the designs. Therefore, the launch could happen once the cabinet gives formal clearance. As a result, the public may see new notes by the end of 2026.

Advanced Security Features Planned

The Security Printing Corporation confirmed important details about the project. The new notes will include advanced and modern security features. These updates aim to reduce counterfeiting and improve public trust.
However, officials have not yet received the final approved designs. Once approval arrives, the printing process can begin immediately. In addition, the required modern machinery is already installed and ready.
Printing Process and Timeline
Printing the new notes will take at least two months. This timeline starts only after official approval. Therefore, delays in approval could push the launch further.
Aamir Shams, Senior Printing Manager, shared further insight. He confirmed that consultations already took place with the State Bank of Pakistan. These discussions focused on technical and logistical requirements.

Release Strategy Under Review

The State Bank continues to review how it will release the notes. Officials are debating whether to launch all denominations together. Alternatively, they may introduce them in phases.
Reports suggest the federal cabinet must approve the plan first. Only then will the State Bank issue the official printing order. As a result, the final timeline remains flexible for now.
Still, progress appears steady. With designs shortlisted and machinery prepared, Pakistan is moving closer to a major monetary update. This change may also improve durability and usability for everyone.
Citizens should not worry about existing notes. Current currency will remain legal tender during the transition. Therefore, people can continue daily transactions without disruption.
Overall, the Pakistan currency redesign reflects modernization goals. It also aligns with global standards for secure banknotes. Many experts believe this move will strengthen financial confidence nationwide.
