Pakistan Fast-Tracks Key Northbound Motorway Project

The government prioritizes the Lahore-Sialkot-Kharian-Rawalpindi motorway. This new corridor promises faster and safer travel. It will connect Punjab’s economic hubs to Islamabad.
The project uses a Public-Private Partnership model. It aims to significantly cut travel times. The motorway will also lower fuel and vehicle costs.

Modern Six-Lane Corridor Under Development

The first section, Lahore-Sialkot, opened in March 2020. This 89-kilometer road operates as a six-lane motorway. It features modern service areas and facilities.
Construction on the Sialkot-Kharian section is now progressing. Authorities upgraded the design to six lanes. This ensures long-term capacity for future traffic.
The Kharian-Rawalpindi section will also feature six lanes. Its design includes two major tunnels. The plan connects several key urban centers.

Major Travel Savings and Economic Benefits

The completed corridor will transform travel. It will shorten the Lahore-Islamabad route by 100 kilometers. Travel time will drop by about one full hour.
Officials expect substantial national fuel savings. Improved traffic flow will enhance overall road safety. The project supports regional economic growth and connectivity.
The full corridor should open in about three years. It represents a major infrastructure achievement. The motorway will be a game-changer for Pakistan.
