Pakistan freelancer earnings cross $557m in FY2025-26 first half

Pakistan freelancer earnings crossed $557 million in the first half of FY2025-26. This jump shows strong growth in the country’s digital economy. It also reflects rising global demand for Pakistan’s skilled remote workforce. The data comes from the State Bank of Pakistan. It was shared by the Pakistan Freelancers Association. According to the figures, earnings rose sharply compared to last year. During July to December, freelancers earned $557 million. In the same period last year, they earned $352 million. As a result, the sector recorded a strong 58% year-on-year increase.

Growth Across Digital Services

Freelancers now offer a wide range of services. These include software development, digital marketing, graphic design, and content creation. In addition, many professionals work in e-commerce and data services. This growth highlights Pakistan’s rise as a global freelancing hub. International clients now turn to Pakistani talent for cost-effective and skilled digital work. Therefore, the sector continues to expand every year.

Government Support Boosts Ecosystem

Government and private initiatives also support this momentum. Training programs and digital tools help new freelancers enter global markets. As a result, more people can earn from online platforms. IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the government plans to expand support. She highlighted efforts to improve digital infrastructure and affordable broadband. In addition, the ministry is working on easier digital payment systems. The government also allows freelancers to keep up to 50% of their earnings in foreign currency accounts. This policy gives them more financial flexibility. Therefore, many professionals now prefer formal banking channels.

Low Tax Rate Encourages Registration

Freelancers registered with the Pakistan Software Export Board pay only 0.25% tax. This low rate encourages more people to join the formal economy. It also helps boost national export figures. Officials say new policy reforms will continue. The government plans more partnerships with the private sector. As a result, Pakistan freelancer earnings could grow even faster in the coming years.
