Pakistan SME Export Marketplace to Link Local Businesses With Global Buyers
Pakistan plans to launch a Pakistan SME marketplace to help small businesses reach global buyers. The digital platform will work like popular international e-commerce sites. As a result, local companies will gain easier access to global markets. The initiative aims to boost exports and improve the visibility of Pakistani products worldwide. In addition, it will help small and medium-sized enterprises grow through digital trade.
Digital Platform to Support SME Growth
The Ministry of Industries and Production is developing the new platform. It will allow SMEs to display and sell products directly to international customers. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries, Haroon Akhtar Khan, shared the plan during a high-level meeting. According to officials, the portal will work like global platforms such as Amazon and Alibaba. For example, businesses will be able to create product listings and connect with buyers worldwide. Therefore, Pakistani entrepreneurs will find new opportunities beyond local markets.
Government Focus on Digital Trade
The project supports the government’s broader effort to digitise the SME sector. Leaders want small businesses to play a stronger role in national exports. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s economic agenda highlights export growth and innovation. As a result, digital tools are becoming a major priority for policymakers. Officials believe the platform will help thousands of SMEs compete internationally. Moreover, it will reduce barriers that often limit smaller exporters.
Meeting Highlights and Industry Support
The meeting included key officials from the government and SME sector. Industries Secretary Saif Anjum and SMEDA CEO Nadia J. Seth attended the discussion. Participants explored ways to strengthen SMEs through technology and global connections. In addition, members of the SMEDA board shared ideas to improve market access. Haroon Akhtar Khan explained that the portal will act as a central online hub. Global buyers will be able to discover high value Pakistani products easily.
Opportunities for Pakistani Products
The marketplace will highlight several local industries. For instance, the gems and jewellery sector could gain more global exposure. Automobile parts and other SME products will also appear on the platform. Consequently, international buyers will find a wide range of Pakistani goods in one place.
The government has already formed a working group for the project. This team will prepare a roadmap for launching the portal. Officials say the system will meet international standards for accessibility and performance. Ultimately, the Pakistan SME marketplace could help local businesses join the fast growing global e-commerce economy.
