Pakistan, Sri Lanka Boost Ties with Focus on Gandhara Heritage
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to significantly deepen their cultural cooperation. The focus will be on promoting shared heritage, arts, and religious tourism. This agreement was finalized in a high-level meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture and the Sri Lankan High Commissioner.
A Partnership Built on Shared Heritage
Minister Aurangzeb Khan Khichi reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to cultural diplomacy. He announced plans to display Pakistani cultural exhibits in Sri Lanka. A central goal is to promote religious tourism centered on Pakistan’s ancient Gandhara civilization.
Focus on Buddhist Heritage and Virtual Access
“People-to-people contact through religious tourism will be a great channel,” Minister Khichi stated. The Sri Lankan High Commissioner expressed great interest in artefacts from sites like Taxila. Officials noted that virtual tours of these heritage sites are already available online.
Planning Joint Exhibitions and Events
Both nations emphasized organizing joint cultural exhibitions and art displays. These events will provide direct platforms for artists and institutions from both countries. They agreed to work closely to implement these plans and deepen long-term friendly relations.
