Pakistan and the UAE share close cultural, diplomatic, and economic ties. The UAE is one of Pakistan’s top trading partners in the Middle East. It is also home to a large Pakistani community that contributes significant remittances. These bonds continue to grow through new projects and shared goals.
Strengthening Cooperation
During a recent visit to Abu Dhabi, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani met UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei. They discussed opportunities to modernize Pakistan’s rail network. The aim is to boost trade, improve connectivity, and support sustainable development.
Both leaders highlighted the brotherly ties between their countries. They also committed to promoting environmentally responsible transport solutions across the region. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Global Rail Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition, which took place from September 30 to October 2. The event gathered global leaders to shape the future of rail and infrastructure.
Pakistan’s Rail Vision
A day earlier, Minister Kayani spoke at a high-level panel on sustainable transport. He stressed that infrastructure and prosperity go hand in hand. For example, Pakistan’s motorway network has increased provincial connectivity and improved freight movement nationwide.
He also outlined Pakistan’s plan to transform its railways. The government aims to upgrade Main Line-1 (ML-1) and Main Line-3 (ML-3). These two key projects are vital for regional trade and integration. They will also align Pakistan’s railway system with international standards. As a result, the country hopes to build a modern, reliable, and eco-friendly transport backbone.
