Pakistan US Iran diplomacy leads to ceasefire breakthrough

Pakistan’s Pakistan US Iran diplomacy faced serious setbacks before success. The region prepared for a wider war as tensions surged. However, Pakistani officials continued efforts to prevent a major conflict.

Backchannel Efforts and Quiet Engagement

The diplomatic effort began during last year’s Iran-Israel conflict. That crisis later drew in the United States and raised regional stakes. As a result, Pakistan stepped forward to reduce tensions through quiet engagement. US President Donald Trump met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. This meeting helped build trust and opened direct communication channels. Meanwhile, Pakistan also gained confidence from Iranian leadership.
Officials revealed that Pakistan created a discreet link between Tehran and Washington. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar exchanged proposals between both sides. In addition, Islamabad shared draft ideas for a possible agreement. The draft suggested Iran would avoid nuclear weapons in return for sanctions relief. However, talks stalled when missile issues entered the discussion. Despite this, Pakistan continued pushing for dialogue and compromise.

Crisis Management and Ceasefire Breakthrough

When tensions rose again, Pakistan intensified diplomatic outreach. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led efforts to contact key players. At the same time, military and intelligence channels handled sensitive negotiations. Pakistan faced pressure from regional partners during the conflict. Still, it chose diplomacy instead of confrontation. Therefore, Islamabad maintained communication with all sides.
At one point, planned talks in Islamabad collapsed due to mistrust. Even then, Pakistan did not step back. Instead, it warned that continued escalation could close the path to peace. Eventually, persistent efforts produced results. A ceasefire agreement created space for dialogue. As a result, Pakistan emerged as a key mediator during a critical moment.
Challenges remain, and mistrust continues to pose risks. Even so, Pakistan’s efforts have reshaped regional diplomacy and opened new possibilities for peace.
