Pakistan, US Strengthen Bilateral Border Safety Through Security Cooperation

Pakistan and the United States strengthened bilateral border safety during a high-level meeting in Islamabad. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker to discuss shared security challenges. Both sides agreed that cooperation remains essential for public safety and regional stability.
The meeting focused on illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and modern security tools. Officials emphasized practical steps instead of broad promises. As a result, both countries committed to closer coordination and mutual support.

Stronger Cooperation on Immigration and Security

Minister Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm stance against illegal immigration. He stressed that the government continues taking clear and lawful action. In addition, Pakistan plans to upgrade airport security using advanced scanning systems to detect threats early.
Ambassador Baker welcomed these efforts and praised Pakistan’s focus on prevention. However, she also highlighted the value of shared intelligence and transparency. Therefore, both sides agreed to improve information exchange and coordination.
Naqvi explained that security upgrades help protect all travelers equally. He added that inclusive policies build trust and reduce risks. This approach, he said, supports long-term stability.

Zero Tolerance for Drug Trafficking

Both sides also discussed drug prevention in depth. Pakistan reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on narcotics. Naqvi pointed out that drug flows from Afghanistan continue to harm many countries, especially young people.
The US offered technical assistance for counter-narcotics operations. As a result, Pakistan welcomed the support and called it a step toward shared responsibility. Naqvi also announced the creation of a National Narcotics Coordination Center under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives.
Officials shared progress by the Anti-Narcotics Force. The ANF seized 134 tons of drugs and arrested 2,001 suspects, including foreign nationals. Authorities also cleared over 40,000 acres of land to maintain poppy-free zones. These results show steady progress and continued commitment.
