Pakistan vs South Africa Test: Noman and Shaheen Shine
Pakistan claimed a thrilling 93-run victory over South Africa in the first Test at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The hosts delivered a dominant all-round display, led by Noman Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Their brilliance gave Pakistan a 1–0 lead in the two-match series.
Pakistan set South Africa a target of 322 runs. On the final day, Noman took five wickets for 63 runs, while Shaheen grabbed four for 58. As a result, South Africa were bowled out for 228, sending the home crowd into celebration.
Bowlers Shine After Strong Batting Effort
South Africa began the day at 74 for two, with captain Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram at the crease. However, Afridi struck early, removing Markram with a sharp inswinger. Noman then took control, dismissing Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen in quick succession. The visitors collapsed soon after, losing eight wickets for just 94 runs.
Earlier in the match, Pakistan scored 287 in their first innings. Babar Azam’s classy 91 and Saud Shakeel’s solid 54 gave the hosts a strong start. South Africa replied with 245, led by Dean Elgar’s determined 68. In the second innings, Abdullah Shafique made 73, while Mohammad Rizwan added a crucial 48 to set up victory.
Noman Ali earned the Player of the Match award for his nine wickets and lower-order runs. Captain Babar Azam praised his bowlers’ discipline and teamwork. Therefore, Pakistan take early control of the series. The teams now head to Rawalpindi for the final Test next week.
