Peshawar Hosts First-Ever International Tourism Conference to Spotlight KP’s Potential
A landmark event for Pakistan’s tourism sector has concluded in Peshawar. The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) successfully organized the first-ever two-day International Tourism Conference and Exhibition. The event focused squarely on driving investment and showcasing the untapped potential of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
The SCCI partnered with key organizations, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) and the Bank of Khyber. Provincial Minister Fakhar Jehan Khan was the chief guest, while U.S. Consul General in Peshawar, Mr. Thomas Eckert, participated as the guest of honour.
A Unified Push for Investment and Development
The conference brought together government authorities, private investors, and stakeholders from across Pakistan. Dozens of exhibition stalls were set up by various provincial tourism departments, private companies, and financial institutions. The goal was to create a collaborative platform for showcasing opportunities and forging partnerships.
In his opening remarks, SCCI President Junaid Altaf emphasized the province’s “abundant rich natural resources.” He stressed the need to fully capitalize on these “God-gifted natural treasures” to attract tourists and investment, thereby building a positive image for the region.
International Support and a Shift to Trade-Based Ties
U.S. Consul General Thomas Eckert underscored a strategic shift in bilateral relations. He stated that Pakistan-U.S. ties are moving from aid-based to trade-based relationships. Mr. Eckert confirmed that American companies are eager to invest in diverse sectors in Pakistan.
He specifically acknowledged K-P’s “extraordinary beauty” and revealed that the U.S. is working on six projects to protect and preserve various heritage sites in the province. He also praised the role of media and digital influencers in promoting Pakistan’s soft image.
Government Commitment to a Peaceful, Lucrative Destination
Provincial Minister Fakhar Jehan outlined the K-P government’s key initiatives to uplift the tourism sector. He assured full government support for investment-driven initiatives, positioning the province as a “peaceful and lucrative destination” for both tourists and investors.
The minister lauded the SCCI and its partners for organizing the pivotal event. He expressed confidence that such efforts would successfully promote the sector and build a positive international image for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
