PIA Flight Delays Deepen Amid Dispute with Engineers
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) continues to struggle with PIA flight delays across the country. The airline blamed the issue on a “strike” by the Society of Aircraft Engineers of Pakistan (SAEP).
However, the SAEP denied the claim. A senior official said engineers were not on strike. “We are working within all aviation rules,” he explained. “Our members follow the PIA Engineering Manual and Civil Aviation Regulations.”
Engineers Reject Strike Allegations
The SAEP said engineers are following safety and certification procedures. These steps ensure aircraft safety and passenger protection. “Safety is our legal and moral duty,” the official stated. “No engineer can compromise on that.”
He added that the airline’s claim of a strike was misleading. “PIA management is calling lawful compliance a disruption,” he said. “Safety comes first, and we will continue to follow every rule.”
Long Delays Affect Passengers
On Tuesday, three flights to Saudi Arabia and one to Dubai departed late. Travellers at Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar airports waited for hours. Officials said the airline used alternate methods to maintain operations.
A PIA spokesperson said the SAEP had no legal standing. The spokesperson accused engineers of trying to delay the airline’s privatization process. However, engineers said their focus remained on fair pay and safe working conditions.
Similar PIA flight delays happened in recent months. Engineers across major airports demanded salary revisions and policy clarity. Therefore, both sides must cooperate to restore smooth flight operations and passenger trust.
