Inspector Ashfaq was killed in a terrorist attack in the Lachi area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district, and two other police officers were shot. Following a fierce gunfight on Saturday, Kohat Regional Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat denounced the attackers’ “cowardly attack” on officers. Three terrorists were successfully neutralised by law police during the ensuing altercation, removing the immediate threat. Similar attacks have increased throughout the province, according to authorities, including a recent event in Bannu district where three terrorists were killed in a thwarted check-post attack and another police officer was slain.
The police and security personnel in KP and Baluchistan are being targeted by an increasing wave of terrorist violence, which includes this attack. Two Federal Constabulary officers were killed by militants in Hangu earlier this month, and other checkpoint attacks in Peshawar, Upper Dir, and Lower Dir resulted in the martyrdom of five police officers and the injuries of eight more. The spike comes after the TTP truce with the government ended in November 2022, which led to heightened counterterrorism activities throughout the province.
