Prabowo Islamabad Visit Boosts Pakistan–Indonesia Partnership
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a two-day official visit. This Prabowo Islamabad Visit took place at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Leaders described the visit as a major step toward stronger bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed President Prabowo at Nur Khan Airbase. Government officials highlighted the warm reception. The visit also aligned with 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.
Moreover, the Foreign Office called the visit timely and meaningful. Both sides aim to expand cooperation. As a result, expectations remain high for positive outcomes.
Leadership Meetings and Policy Talks
President Prabowo will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will also meet President Asif Ali Zardari during the visit. In addition, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will call on the Indonesian president.
Leaders will discuss trade, defence, and investment opportunities. They will also cover health, climate action, and digital technology. Education and cultural exchange will remain key discussion areas.
Furthermore, officials expect multiple memoranda of understanding. These agreements will support long-term collaboration. Therefore, both countries see this visit as a strategic opportunity.
Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
Pakistan and Indonesia share deep ties rooted in faith and culture. They actively cooperate in trade, education, and healthcare. Over time, these links have continued to grow.
Earlier this year, both sides discussed defence production and technical collaboration. For example, Indonesian defence officials expressed interest in joint ventures. Consequently, defence cooperation continues to gain importance.
In June, the two nations agreed to expand healthcare collaboration. Plans included vaccine production and medical training exchanges. This Prabowo Islamabad Visit strengthens those commitments.
Notably, this marks President Prabowo’s first visit to Pakistan. Former President Joko Widodo last visited in 2018. Therefore, leaders view this visit as a new chapter in relations.
