President Zardari Visits Urumqi Urban Management Center Praises Digital Model for Pakistan’s City Planning

President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday visited the Urban Operations and Management Center in Urumqi, where he was warmly welcomed by the Mayor of Urumqi and the Vice Governor of Xinjiang. During the visit, the president and his delegation were given a detailed briefing on the working of the Center, which digitally integrates more than 30 municipal departments and provides over 200 services to citizens. Officials highlighted that the hub operates as a one-window platform for the delivery of essential services, ensuring real-time coordination across areas such as healthcare, education, utilities, road safety, and emergency response. President Zardari showed keen interest in the integrated system, describing it as an effective model for modern urban governance. He appreciated the innovative approach of Chinese authorities, noting that such advancements offer valuable insights for improving city management practices in Pakistan.
The president underscored that Pakistan could benefit greatly from adopting digital solutions for urban planning and service delivery. He expressed the hope that Pakistani urban planners would study the Urumqi model closely and design systems suited to local needs, ensuring that citizens can access public services in a faster and more transparent manner. President Zardari emphasized that leveraging technology for urban management could play a critical role in tackling challenges such as population growth, infrastructure demand, and emergency preparedness in Pakistani cities. The visit was also attended by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, and the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, highlighting the importance of bilateral cooperation in governance and technology. By appreciating the vision behind Urumqi’s digital management system, the president reinforced Pakistan’s willingness to learn from successful international experiences and to apply those lessons for more efficient and citizen-friendly urban development.
