The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) firmly denied on August 31, 2025, a bogus warning that was making the rounds on social media that mobile phones that use more than five SIM cards in a month would have their IMEI disabled. No such regulation exists, according to PTA’s Director of Communications Zaib-un-Nisa, who also underlined that the organization does not impose any restrictions on the number of SIMs that can be used or track SIM usage by device. Even though the viral alert had the PTA’s official emblem, its verified platforms formally declared it to be fraudulent.
