PTI Criticizes Digital Firewall Spending Amid Economic Strain

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has criticized the federal government over Digital Firewall Spending. The party claims the project wasted billions of public funds. Moreover, it says the plan aimed to silence political opponents instead of protecting national interests.
According to the party, officials dismantled the system after public criticism. As a result, many people questioned the project’s purpose and financial impact.

Project Closure Before 5G Auction

Sheikh Waqas Akram shared concerns about the project’s technical limits. He stated that authorities shut it down just before the 5G spectrum auction. Therefore, this step raised doubts about its effectiveness and long-term value. In addition, the installation reportedly caused prolonged internet slowdowns. These disruptions, he noted, affected users and businesses across the country.

Punjab Transport Policy Under Fire

The party also criticized the revised transport policy introduced by the Punjab Government. Officials increased vehicle engine capacities for senior bureaucrats. Furthermore, they raised monthly fuel allowances for Grade 21 and 22 officers. Senior secretaries may now use two vehicles for official and personal needs. For example, they can access cars with engine capacities up to 2800cc and 1800cc.
Additionally, eligible officers will receive 200 litres of petrol for personal use. Fuel for official duties will remain uncapped under the new framework.

Public Concerns During Economic Pressure

Party leaders believe these changes show misplaced priorities. Millions of citizens face inflation and unemployment. However, elite privileges continue to expand with public funding. Major cities in Punjab still face urban flooding and poor drainage systems. In contrast, resources now support increased perks for officials. Sheikh Waqas Akram said this growing gap reflects elite capture. He added that people struggle with rising prices and weak public services. As a result, such policies send troubling signals about governance priorities.
