Punjab Anti-Drone Units: Govt to Deploy Systems in All Districts

Punjab anti drone units will soon operate in every district as the provincial government strengthens security measures. Authorities announced the decision to improve aerial monitoring and prevent potential drone threats. The move forms part of a wider effort to enhance public safety across the province.
Officials from the Punjab Home Department shared details of the plan. Each district will receive a specialised unit to monitor suspicious aerial activity. In addition, authorities will install modern anti-drone systems to counter hostile devices. The government introduced these steps after security agencies raised concerns about drone misuse. Therefore, officials want stronger monitoring of the province’s airspace.

Anti-Drone Systems to Strengthen Security

Punjab anti drone units will work under the supervision of District Police Officers. These units will respond quickly to reports of suspicious drone activity. As a result, authorities expect faster coordination between law enforcement teams. The anti-drone systems will use advanced jamming technology. This technology can disrupt signals that control unauthorized drones. Consequently, security teams can neutralize drones operated by hostile or malicious actors.
Officials believe this technology will help prevent surveillance, smuggling, or other illegal activities. Moreover, stronger aerial monitoring will support overall law enforcement efforts across the province. Authorities also plan to train personnel who will operate the systems. Proper training will ensure effective use of the new equipment.

Drone Restrictions Already in Place

Punjab anti drone units will support existing restrictions on drone operations. Earlier, the provincial government imposed limits under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. These restrictions ban outdoor drone use by the general public. However, authorities introduced exemptions for law enforcement and intelligence agencies. These organisations can continue using drones for official duties.
Officials say these steps will reduce security risks linked to unauthorized drones. At the same time, security agencies will maintain operational efficiency. The provincial government believes the initiative will improve surveillance and strengthen public safety. Authorities will now begin implementing Punjab anti drone units across all districts in phases.
