Punjab E-Taxi Scheme Balloting Set for November

Lahore residents show strong interest in the Punjab e-taxi scheme as the government prepares for electronic balloting at the end of November. Officials confirm that the Transport Department sent applicant data to the Bank of Punjab. In addition, the bank will run the draw and guide successful applicants through payment steps. Many people hope the plan will create fresh income and cleaner travel.

Balloting and Distribution

The bank will contact selected applicants to submit their down payment. They must follow the deadline to secure the vehicle. As a result, they can expect delivery within months. The government launched the plan in mid-September to support cleaner mobility in Lahore. It also built an online portal to simplify applications and later documentation.
The first phase brings 1,100 electric taxis from China, including 100 for women. Each unit includes a tracking tool, a panic button, and a long battery warranty. Interest grew quickly, and more than 66,000 people started registration. However, only about 28,000 applications reached completion. Fleet owners filed 154 of these applications.

Financing, Eligibility, and Support

The plan offers a five-year interest-free loan with a short grace period. Individual applicants can access financing up to Rs 4.55 million, while larger operators can receive far more. Applicants must contribute 30 percent equity, and the government covers a share based on category. For example, it supports men with half the equity and women with slightly more.
Fleet operators receive 30 to 40 percent depending on fleet size. Each applicant must hold a valid driving licence and live in the province. The Bank of Punjab may reject any case with weak details or unclear records. However, applicants can use the bank helpline for help or complaints. Drivers may operate vehicles anywhere in the province, giving them broad commercial freedom. This support encourages wider economic growth across communities in the region overall.
