Ramadan 2026 Zakat Nisab Set at Rs503,529 Before Holy Month
The Ramadan 2026 Zakat Nisab has been fixed at Rs503,529. The government shared this update before the start of the holy month. As a result, banks will follow the new threshold for automatic deductions.
According to the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, accounts below Rs503,529 will face no Zakat deduction. However, balances at or above this amount will qualify for the deduction.
Deduction Date Linked With Moon Sighting
Authorities have named the first day of Ramadan as the official deduction date. This date may fall on February 19 or February 20. The final decision will depend on the moon sighting. The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission expects the crescent on February 18. Therefore, February 19 could become the first fasting day. Astronomers say the new moon will appear on February 17 at 5:01pm Pakistan Standard Time. In addition, weather and visibility conditions seem favorable for moon sighting the next evening.
Moon Sighting Committee Meetings
The central moon sighting committee will meet in Peshawar on February 18. The meeting will take place under the chair of Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad. At the same time, zonal committees will meet in major cities. For example, sessions will be held in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta. These meetings will confirm the official start of Ramadan.
Instructions For Zakat collection
Authorities have asked all Zakat Collecting and Controlling Agencies to follow the instructions strictly. They must deduct Zakat from eligible accounts on the notified date.
After the deduction, banks must transfer the funds immediately. The amount will go to the Central Zakat Account No ZZ-08 at the State Bank of Pakistan. This step ensures smooth and transparent handling of the collected Zakat.
