Rawalpindi Police Host Cardiac Health Seminar to Promote Preventative Care

A vital cardiac health awareness seminar was held for police personnel in Rawalpindi. The event took place at the Police Lines Headquarters in collaboration with the Sarwar Shahida Research Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences Trust. Its goal was to promote preventive healthcare among officers.
Senior police officials, including SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob, attended the seminar. Consultant cardiologists delivered special lectures to the force. They provided detailed information on heart diseases, their global impact, and crucial preventive measures.

The Alarming Global and Local Burden of Heart Disease

The medical experts presented sobering statistics to highlight the urgency of the issue. Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for approximately 17.9 million deaths worldwide each year. In Pakistan, the situation is particularly acute, with 30 to 40% of all deaths linked to heart-related ailments.
However, the doctors delivered a powerful message of hope alongside these figures. They emphasized that nearly 80% of deaths caused by heart diseases are preventable. Timely precautions and positive lifestyle changes can dramatically reduce individual risk.

Key Lifestyle Advice for a Healthier Heart

The cardiologists outlined clear, actionable steps for the police personnel to improve their heart health. The core recommendations included:
Maintaining a “balanced diet”
Ensuring “adequate water intake”
Engaging in “regular exercise”
Getting “proper rest”
Avoiding smoking and tobacco use
These fundamental habits form the cornerstone of preventing not only cardiac illness but also other related chronic conditions.

Leadership Emphasizes Health as an Operational Priority

Addressing the seminar, SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob linked officer health directly to professional effectiveness. “A healthy police force is essential to meet public expectations effectively,” he stated.
He urged all officers and staff to take personal responsibility for their wellbeing. This includes giving up harmful habits and proactively adopting the healthier lifestyles outlined by the medical experts.

An Ongoing Commitment to Officer Wellbeing

A police spokesperson confirmed that such awareness initiatives will continue. This seminar is part of a broader effort to improve the overall health, wellness, and operational readiness of the police force. Investing in preventative care is seen as an investment in a more capable and resilient institution.
