According to a recent statement, the excavation of the foundation pit and work on the abutments is expected to be completed by the end of this year, paving the way for RCC activities to begin. The dam site, located approximately 40 kilometers downstream of Chilas in Gilgit-Baltistan, was inspected on Tuesday by WAPDA Chairman, retired Lieutenant General Muhammad Saeed. During his visit, the Chairman assessed ongoing construction work, including progress at the crushing plant, diversion tunnel, conveyor belt tunnel, and the RCC trial section.
He also called on WAPDA teams and consultants to take a proactive stance in identifying and addressing potential delays or operational challenges. These initiatives span improvements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure across the region.
Standing at an impressive height of 272 meters, the Diamer-Bhasha Dam will be the tallest RCC dam in the world upon completion Additionally, it boasts a massive installed capacity of 4,500 megawatts, contributing an estimated 18 billion units of clean, renewable, and cost-effective electricity annually to Pakistan’s national grid. This project is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the country’s water and energy challenges, while also promoting sustainable development in the region.
