Rotten Flour Ramazan Scheme Sparks Outrage in Taxila, Wah
Rotten flour under the rotten flour scheme has triggered outrage in ‘Taxila’ and ‘Wah’. Residents raised serious health concerns. Moreover, the issue has shaken trust in the Ramazan relief programme.
Officials from the ‘Punjab Food Department’ confirmed action against one mill. They sealed it and imposed a heavy fine. However, many people believe this step is not enough.
Public Anger Grows
Consumers reported foul-smelling and discoloured flour from subsidy stalls. In addition, some bags contained visible dirt and insects. As a result, families struggled to use the flour for daily meals.
Many said the dough turned dark and sticky. Therefore, the bread tasted bitter and smelled unpleasant. People felt the scheme failed to provide real relief.
Ahsan Talib, a daily wage worker, shared his frustration. He said his family could not use the flour despite long queues. Similarly, Shabana Bibi called the scheme disappointing and unfair.
Health Risks and Demands
Health experts warned about serious risks from spoiled flour. For example, it can cause stomach infections, especially in children and older adults. Local clinics already reported several complaints.
Residents demanded strict checks and transparency. They also asked for compensation or replacement of faulty flour. Furthermore, activists urged authorities to reveal the mills involved.
During a visit, Barrister Aqeel Malik expressed anger over the situation. He ordered immediate inspections and strict quality control. Meanwhile, officials promised further action to restore public confidence.
