Sahibzada Farhan ICC Team: Pakistan Opener Shines in T20 World Cup Tournament XI
The Sahibzada Farhan ICC Team selection became a proud moment for cricket fans. The International Cricket Council revealed the T20 World Cup Team of the Tournament on Monday. Farhan stood out as the only Pakistani player in the 12-member list. However, the team struggled during the event. Even so, the opener delivered consistent performances.
The 29-year-old batter scored 383 runs in the tournament. As a result, he set the record for the most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition. According to the ICC, Farhan impressed with both skill and confidence. In addition, he maintained strong form throughout the competition.
He also created history during the tournament. For example, Farhan became the first batter to score two centuries in one T20 World Cup. One of those hundreds came against Namibia. The second arrived during a dramatic Super Eight match against Sri Lanka. That innings proved crucial for his side. Therefore, the team secured a thrilling five-run victory in that match.
Record Partnership and Global Recognition
Farhan also built strong partnerships during the tournament. Notably, he shared a 176-run stand with Fakhar Zaman against Sri Lanka. That partnership became the highest for any wicket in T20 World Cup history. As a result, the match entered the tournament’s record books.
Besides his centuries, the opener scored two half-centuries. He achieved those scores against the United States and England. Meanwhile, several international stars also earned places in the tournament squad. India, the eventual champions, contributed four players.
Those players included Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah. Their performances helped India lift the trophy. Other selections came from different cricketing nations. England’s Will Jacks and Adil Rashid joined the lineup.
The squad also included West Indies’ Jason Holder and Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani. South Africa’s Aidan Markram and Lungi Ngidi completed the group. Markram earned the captaincy of the team. In addition, the United States’ Shadley Van Schalkwyk secured the 12th player spot.
