Shehbaz MBS call urges de-escalation amid Middle East tensions

Shehbaz MBS call urges de-escalation amid Middle East tensions

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday. During the Shehbaz MBS call, he praised Saudi restraint amid Middle East tensions. He also urged immediate steps to reduce conflict and restore regional peace.
He shared Eidul Fitr greetings for King Salman and the Saudi people. In addition, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for Saudi Arabia. Both leaders discussed unity and stability across the Muslim world.

Focus on Peace and Restraint

Shehbaz Sharif condemned recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. However, he appreciated the Kingdom’s calm and responsible response. He urged all sides to avoid escalation and choose dialogue.
Moreover, he stressed the need for unity within the Ummah. He said cooperation can prevent further damage. As a result, both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination.
They also reviewed the impact of Iran’s retaliatory actions. These attacks followed US-Israel strikes earlier this year. Therefore, tensions have continued to rise across the Gulf region.

Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts

Pakistan has increased its diplomatic outreach to promote peace. For example, Islamabad offered to host talks between the United States and Iran. Shehbaz believes dialogue can ease tensions and prevent conflict.
In addition, reports suggest Pakistan worked with Turkiye and Egypt to limit escalation. This effort aimed to prevent attacks on Iranian energy sites. Such strikes could have worsened the crisis.
Earlier this month, Shehbaz met the Crown Prince in a restricted session. Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation for regional stability. As a result, Pakistan continues to position itself as a mediator.
