Sindh Charts Progress in Health, Education, and Housing Post-Floods
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) holds a strong public mandate in Sindh. Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari highlighted this fact at a recent Islamabad ceremony. He detailed the province’s future roadmap and current performance.
Public service remains the Sindh government’s top priority. The administration faced significant challenges upon taking office. However, it addressed these issues through effective planning and strong policy implementation.
Major Advances in Healthcare Services
Sindh’s health sector shows remarkable progress. Special attention strengthened its healthcare services for all residents. For example, the province introduced Pakistan’s first CyberKnife technology for cancer treatment.
In addition, it upgraded the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to world-class standards. The government provides these world-class facilities free to the public. Therefore, even expensive treatments like cancer care are now accessible.
The province also built 11 hospitals based on the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) model. Consequently, over 2.9 million patients received treatment at these centers in just one year. Cardiac patients get free care locally, eliminating long, difficult trips for people from interior Sindh.
Building Resilience in Education and Housing
Sindh’s education sector also expanded dramatically. The province now has 30 universities, a major increase from only 10 in 2008. Furthermore, authorities established Gambat Medical College in 2017 and recruited 100,000 teachers on merit.
The 2022 floods posed a severe test. This natural disaster damaged thousands of schools and destroyed 2.1 million homes. In response, the province launched its largest-ever housing project.
Construction is now underway for 2.1 million homes for affected families. The Sindh government received full federal support during this critical recovery process. As a result, rebuilding efforts continue at a steady pace.
A Continued Commitment to Public Service
Poverty alleviation programs are active across Sindh. The Benazir Income Support Programme remains a key federal-level social protection initiative. The PPP takes great pride in this ongoing effort.
Public trust in Sindh’s healthcare system is growing. A large number of patients at Gambat Hospital now come from other provinces. This trend clearly reflects the system’s improving reputation.
The Sindh government vows to continue improving all sectors. Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari reaffirmed his party’s deep commitment to public service. Future steps will build on this established record of progress.
