Sindh Fast-Tracks Karachi Water Security with Urgent KB Feeder Lining

Karachi’s residents may soon see stronger improvements in Karachi water security as the Sindh government accelerates key upgrades. The province has decided to mobilise all available resources to line the Kalri Baghar (KB) Feeder during the short December break at the Kotri Barrage. This window offers a critical chance to protect the city’s allocated water quota. As a result, officials expect smoother delivery and reduced losses.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah called this effort a decisive step toward sustainable supply. He noted that the government aims to support communities with reliable infrastructure. In addition, he approved funds for urgent maintenance at Hub Dam to secure its structure and ensure a steady flow of water to Karachi and Balochistan.

KB Feeder Work and K-IV Expansion

The KB Feeder project carries a cost of Rs50.989 billion. It aims to save 510 cusecs of water by reducing seepage along the canal. Teams will work quickly to complete construction before the barrage reopens.
Meanwhile, the K-IV project continues to progress. This system will deliver 260 million gallons of water daily from Keenjhar Lake. Work inside the city is also moving forward. For example, the pipeline under University Road will connect to the main line at Gulbai to improve supply routes.

Reservoir Plans and RBOD Restoration

Authorities will also build three reservoirs—R-1, R-2, and R-3—to support different regions of Karachi. Each one will strengthen the existing network and create backup pathways for stable service. In addition, the chief minister urged fast rehabilitation of the RBOD drainage system, which the 2022 floods damaged heavily.
The government directed all departments to coordinate closely and release funds on time. Therefore, Karachi can expect steady progress as these major projects reach new milestones.
