Sindh, Federal Govts Resolve Karachi Green Line Dispute
After weeks of uncertainty, the Sindh and federal governments have finally resolved the Karachi Green Line dispute. Officials described the matter as a simple coordination issue. The decision will allow work on the city’s key transport project to restart soon.
Progress on the Green Line Project
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Sindh Minister Jam Khan Shoro visited the project site. They confirmed that the Green Line extension will finish within a year. The plan includes three new stations and upgraded routes for commuters.
Earlier, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab had suspended construction due to coordination concerns. However, after several meetings, both sides agreed to cooperate closely. As a result, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company Limited (PIDCL) will work together.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government would protect Karachi’s heritage during construction. In addition, he mentioned that a special development package for Karachi and Hyderabad is already underway. The project aims to give Karachiites safe, modern, and affordable transport options.
Coordination and Development Commitment
Jam Khan Shoro explained that technical delays came from drainage, water line, and footpath issues. These challenges arose because the original NOC dated back to 2017. Therefore, the Sindh government will appoint a focal person to coordinate with PIDCL.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized unity among coalition partners. He assured that joint decisions ensure faster development. With renewed cooperation, the Green Line extension will move ahead smoothly, improving daily travel for thousands of Karachi residents.
