Sindh Government to Roll Out Free Pink Scooters, Double-Decker & Electric Buses to Modernize Transport

The Sindh government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform public transport and modernize commuting across Karachi. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the province will soon distribute free pink scooters to women, marking a major step toward empowering female commuters. He emphasized that the initiative is designed to provide safer, more reliable travel options for women, particularly students and working professionals.
Alongside the scooter scheme, new double-decker buses and electric vehicles are set to be added to the city’s transport network. These additions aim to ease traffic congestion, reduce environmental impact, and create more efficient mobility for urban residents. The government is also focusing on developing pedestrian-friendly spaces and dedicated cycling tracks, signaling a shift toward inclusive and sustainable transportation solutions.
Minister Memon highlighted progress on major infrastructure projects as well. The Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor is nearing completion, while the reconstruction of Jam Sadiq Bridge is planned to improve connectivity and ease heavy traffic flow. Work on the Red Line BRT is being prioritized in collaboration with international development partners to ensure timely delivery. The Green Line BRT will also see enhanced facilities, with Memon assuring that there will be “no fare hike” despite the upgrades.
The government has laid out criteria for women applying to receive pink scooters, focusing on ensuring fair distribution. Eligible recipients will include female students, working women, and permanent residents of Sindh. The program is expected to make a substantial difference by giving women greater independence and safer travel options.
These initiatives represent a broader commitment by the Sindh government to modernize transport, empower marginalized groups, and promote eco-friendly alternatives to traditional commuting. By introducing free scooters, electric buses, and double-decker fleets while improving walking and cycling infrastructure, Sindh aims to ease urban mobility challenges and provide long-term benefits to both residents and the environment.
