Splitgate Update 2.2 Adds Arena Royale and New Maps

A major new update is arriving for the popular portal-based shooter. Splitgate Arena Royale is a new 24-player battle royale mode launching in Update 2.2 on January 22, 2026. The mode emphasizes the game’s arena shooter roots with a “less looting, more shooting” philosophy. It removes traditional buy stations for instant upgrades and adds respawns alongside classic arena-style objectives. Consequently, it blends the high stakes of a battle royale with Splitgate’s signature fast-paced action.

Arena-First Philosophy Reshapes Battle Royale

The mode drops players into four massive biomes, including a new urban map called Outskirts. Arena Royale incorporates respawns to keep players in the action and features special “Arena Events.” These events introduce classic arena shooter objectives directly into the battle royale format. This design focuses squarely on constant combat and skillful play.
Design Director Josh Watson states the team wanted to push the mode closer to a true arena shooter feel. The result is a distinct take on the genre that prioritizes gunplay and movement over inventory management. Therefore, it offers a fresh experience for both battle royale and arena shooter fans.

New Content and a Playful Limited-Time Event

Update 2.2 also introduces two brand-new standard arena maps. Tri-Hard is a chaotic map built around launch pads for high-flying fights, while Runway offers a neon cityscape designed for strategic portal use and fast rotations.
A new limited-time event called “Teabag Takeover” begins on January 23, rewarding players for the classic in-game gesture. Other additions include a new mastery camo, proximity chat for Arena Royale, and numerous balance fixes. This substantial update demonstrates 1047 Games’ ongoing commitment to expanding the Splitgate experience.
