Sri Lanka Cricket Team to Stay for Pakistan Tri-Series Despite Security Concerns
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that its players will continue the Pakistan tri-nation series. The board instructed all players, staff, and team management to remain in Pakistan despite safety concerns. This decision followed reports that several players planned to return home.
Earlier this week, a tragic suicide blast struck outside the district and sessions court in Islamabad’s G-11 area. The attack killed twelve people and injured thirty-six others. It happened as Pakistan hosted several international events, including the first ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.
Safety Concerns and Swift Response
After the bombing, some Sri Lankan players voiced fear for their safety. However, SLC assured everyone that security measures are being reviewed. Officials emphasized their commitment to the players’ protection and the tournament’s success.
An SLC source revealed that the second ODI might face delays. However, the board plans to send substitute players to ensure the tri-nation series continues as planned. The source also mentioned that up to eight players may still choose to return home.
In addition, SLC and Pakistan Cricket Board are working closely with security agencies. Their joint efforts aim to keep the tournament safe and maintain international cricket’s spirit.
Therefore, despite recent challenges, the tri-series featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe will go ahead. Fans around the world hope for safe and exciting matches ahead.
