Subnautica 2 Comes to Xbox Game Pass in May Early Access

Subnautica 2 Comes to Xbox Game Pass in May Early Access

Unknown Worlds announces Subnautica 2 will launch in early access on Xbox Game Pass starting May 2026. Subnautica 2 Game Pass brings one of the most anticipated sequels to subscribers on day one. The original Subnautica became a modern classic in the survival genre after its 2018 launch. Expectations remain incredibly high for this long-awaited follow-up. The sequel’s development has faced a rocky road with multiple challenges. Original series creators left Unknown Worlds amidst an internal shake-up. Publisher Krafton faced accusations of pushing the game out before it was ready. A fan boycott was even called at one point during development.

Development Challenges and Delays

Subnautica 2 was eventually delayed out of its original 2025 release window. A lawsuit between Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton has been ongoing behind the scenes. This has understandably led to cautious optimism among dedicated fans. The May early access window marks the first update in quite some time.
Details remain scarce about what the sequel will actually offer. Early access presumably will be available for Game Pass Ultimate members. This follows past history of early access releases on the subscription service. PC players will also get access alongside Xbox consoles at launch.

What to Expect

The original Subnautica was praised for its survival gameplay and ability to build tension. ScreenRant’s review highlighted these strengths when the game launched. Subnautica 2 carries heavy expectations from the passionate fanbase. The sequel has a lot to live up to after the original’s success.
Assuming no further delays or legal drama occur, early access starts in May. Xbox Game Pass members will have the chance to play it then. The wait is almost over for those eager to check it out. Hopefully the final product proves worth the long anticipation.
