Sudan’s RSF Leader Orders Probe After Civilian Killings in El-Fasher
Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader has ordered an investigation into alleged violations by his soldiers during the capture of El-Fasher.
RSF Launches Probe into El-Fasher Killings
General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, made the announcement after reports of civilian killings surfaced. The takeover of the Darfur city on Sunday sparked international outrage, with videos allegedly showing RSF fighters committing violent acts.
However, the RSF has denied claims made by medics that more than 400 people were killed at a hospital in the city on Tuesday.
Global Outcry and UN Response
Videos analysed by BBC Verify appear to confirm that RSF soldiers executed unarmed civilians in El-Fasher. The disturbing footage has intensified calls for global action.
The UN Security Council is set to meet to discuss the worsening crisis in Sudan, now in its third year of civil war between the army and paramilitary forces.
British Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty said the UK called the meeting to address the “unconscionable scale of suffering.” He added that many victims were targeted based on ethnicity, while women and girls face sexual and gender-based violence.
As a result, international pressure is mounting on Sudan’s warring sides to end the conflict and ensure accountability for war crimes.
