Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch 2 Sparks Rosalina Speculation

Nintendo fans are buzzing with speculation following the reveal of Super Mario Bros. Wonder for the upcoming Switch 2. During the September Direct presentation, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a background character resembling Rosalina, sparking rumors that she may finally join the game’s roster in the enhanced version.
Rosalina first appeared in Super Mario Galaxy (2007), where she quickly became a beloved character. Unlike Princess Peach, she broke the “damsel in distress” mold by serving as a guardian of the cosmos and aiding Mario in his interstellar adventures. Since then, Rosalina has returned in Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D World, and several spin-offs, making her a recognizable part of the Mario franchise.
What intrigued fans most is how subtly she appears in the footage. A Reddit thread pointed out that Rosalina wasn’t directly shown in the announcement, but instead seems to be tucked into a scene almost like an Easter egg. Many interpret this as Nintendo deliberately teasing her role, aligning with the company’s broader push to spotlight Super Mario Galaxy content once again. With Galaxy ports already on Switch and a film adaptation in development, bringing Rosalina into Wonder would tie neatly into Nintendo’s strategy.
The September Direct also highlighted the 40th anniversary of Super Mario, celebrating the franchise’s incredible longevity. In that context, including Rosalina in the Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder feels like a natural way to honor both legacy and innovation.
While Nintendo has yet to confirm a release date, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is slated to arrive on Switch 2 in 2026. Until then, speculation around Rosalina’s role will likely continue, keeping excitement high for one of gaming’s most enduring and imaginative franchises.
