Switzerland Backs Winter Tourism Development in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan’s winter sports scene is getting a major boost. Switzerland is providing practical support to develop the country’s winter tourism sector. The focus is on training professional ski instructors to international standards.
A key training program is underway in the city of Karakol. Swiss experts are teaching modern methods to local instructors. This ensures high-quality experiences for both local enthusiasts and international tourists.

Building a Foundation for Sustainable Growth

The initiative is part of the Swiss-funded Sustainable Winter Tourism project. Ambassador Sirocco Meserli highlighted the project’s core philosophy. He stated that qualified personnel are decisive for providing a high-level tourist experience.
The training covers skiing techniques, instruction, and safety protocols. It aims to establish a recognized career path for instructors. Therefore, it creates a foundation for long-term economic growth in the sector.

Unlocking Kyrgyzstan’s Mountain Potential

Kyrgyzstan possesses immense natural advantages for winter tourism. Approximately 94% of the country’s territory is mountainous. New ski resorts are actively being developed to capitalize on this landscape.
Karakol remains the primary ski destination. It offers affordable access, with full ski equipment rental costing around $35. This makes winter sports accessible to a wide audience.
Local experts note a surge in popularity and demand. By investing in its people, Kyrgyzstan is positioning itself as a future hub for sustainable and professional winter travel.
