Trails Beyond the Horizon Demos Launch Ahead of Release

NIS America releases two new playable demos for The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon today, offering western fans a early preview of its story and combat. The Story Demo covers the game’s critical prologue, while the separate Battle Demo focuses purely on its deep tactical systems. These releases build strong anticipation for the full launch of this 20th-anniversary title next month.

Story Demo: Diving into the Prologue

The Story Demo lets players experience the narrative’s starting point, where Van Arkride returns. He joins forces with series icons Rean Schwarzer and Father Kevin Graham for a Marduk training exercise. This mission unexpectedly uncovers world-shaking secrets, setting their diverging paths toward a shared, ultimate mystery.
Importantly, save data from this demo on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 will carry over to the full game after its day-one patch. This feature rewards players for investing time now, allowing their progress to continue seamlessly when the complete adventure launches in January.

Battle Demo: Mastering Tactical Combat

Meanwhile, the Battle Demo throws players directly into strategic fights within the Grim Garten. This virtual reality space, originally created by Marduk but hacked by Ouroboros, serves as a dedicated combat playground. Players can form a party from Van, Kevin, and Rean to test the game’s refined and updated battle systems.
However, this combat-focused demo is currently exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. It provides the perfect opportunity for players to master the turn-based mechanics that define the legendary Trails franchise before the full release.

Final Details and Launch Information

These demos provide the perfect on-ramp for both series veterans and newcomers. They effectively showcase the deep, interconnected narrative and complex, strategic combat that fans expect. Furthermore, the ability to transfer progress makes diving into the Story Demo a worthwhile and rewarding preview.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon officially launches in the West on January 15, 2026. It will be available on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, as well as on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS4, and PS5.
