Typhoon Kalmaegi Nears Vietnam After Deadly Path Through Philippines
Typhoon Kalmaegi is heading towards central Vietnam after leaving a deadly trail in the Philippines. The storm killed at least 114 people there and continues to strengthen as it moves westward.
According to Vietnam’s weather bureau, the typhoon is bringing winds of increasing intensity. Waves could reach up to 8 meters (26 feet) along the coast.
Vietnam Braces for Impact
Thousands of coastal residents have been urged to evacuate ahead of the storm’s landfall. Authorities are working to move people from low-lying and flood-prone areas to safer locations.
Officials warn that Kalmaegi could cause heavy rains, strong winds, and flash floods. As a result, emergency services are on high alert, preparing for potential damage to homes and infrastructure.
In addition, Vietnam has already been struggling with record rainfall and severe flooding this past week. The arrival of another powerful storm is likely to make recovery efforts even harder.
Flights Canceled and Airports Closed
More than 50 flights have been canceled or rescheduled due to worsening weather conditions. Six airports across the central region have also suspended operations.
Transportation officials are monitoring the situation closely. They have urged travelers to check for updates and follow safety instructions.
Kalmaegi is one of the strongest typhoons this year. Therefore, authorities are taking extra precautions to minimize casualties and property loss.
